Table 4 shows that the mean score of pre test and post test of the knowledge regarding substance abuse among Nursing students were 6.716 and 15.83 respectively. The ‘t’ value obtained is 3.40 this value is significant at 0.05 level from the mean score its clear that the samples had more knowledge on substance abuse after attending structure teaching programme. Hence the findings accepted the research hypothesis.

The above Table 5 states that the association between the pre test knowledge regarding substance abuse with selected demographic variables. The findings reveals that there is no significant association between knowledge with Age, Income, Type of Family and there is a significant relationship between Religion and Knowledge.

DISCUSSION:

The study was conducted in nursing students in P.S. College of Nursing with the aim of assessing the knowledge regarding substance abuse.20 samples were selected in this study. The data shows that 40% belongs to 18-19 years 30% belongs to 20-21 years and 30% belongs to 22-23 years.

The income of nursing students 35%were 10000-20000, 30% were 20001to 30000 and 30% were 30001 to 40000, 5% were above 40000.In religion majority of sample belongs to Christian 80%and 20% were Hindus. In type of family 65% belongs to nuclear family and 35% were extended family.

The first objective is to assess the knowledge regarding substance abuse. It shows that 90% samples have poor knowledge and 10% samples had average knowledge.

The second objective of the study was to assess the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on substance abuse. The study reveals 0% of the sample had poor knowledge, 20% sample had average knowledge 80% of the sample of good knowledge.

The study reveals the mean score of pre test and post test of the knowledge regarding substance abuse among Nursing students were 6.716 and 15.83 respectively. The ‘t’ value obtained is 3.40. The value is significant at 0.05 level.

The third objectives of the study was to find out the association between pre test knowledge with selected demographic variables.

The finding reveals that there is no significant association between knowledge with Age, Income, Type of family and significant relation between Religion and Knowledge level of substance abuse
